My name is Vivian Lovelace, software developer, project manager, fiction novelist, and game designer originally hailing from Birmingham, Alabama.
In 2017 I landed a role with grocery delivery startup, Shipt, giving me experience in both tech and business operations before and after corporate acquisition. I led Logistics, Supply Chain, and Operations teams through steady year-over-year growth, and eventually the 2020 pandemic lockdowns. I found the experience of leading a team of knowledgeable and hardworking specialists to be incredibly rewarding and revealing of talents I was previously unaware of. Currently I’m interested in expanding my hands-on technical expertise in order to become the leader I aspire to be.
After a decade of occasional personal coding experience, I caught the programming bug in earnest while rediscovering my passions in 2024. Swifter than I ever expected, writing code has become one of the most enjoyable activities I’ve ever pursued, as it harmonizes my creativity, logical aptitudes, and joy in solving problems.
I’m also a lifelong fiction writer and gamer. This website originally began as a means to promote my writing, but now I’m eager to align my skills, passions, and experience towards my next ambition.
I began writing novel manuscripts in late 2015 and have been developing my craft still to this day. One massive life reset caused me to reflect upon my publishing journey, leading me to accept that in order to create what I dream of creating, I must continue pushing myself to grow and experience life in all new ways.
Prior to ever completing a first draft, I was building my skills as a game designer and developer. In 2015, I coded and created the assets for my first little game project, a simple platformer titled Glitch Witch. This project was incredibly fun and taught me so much from immersing myself in both the technical and creative aspects of game development.
I originally stepped away from game dev in favor of composing novels, as the work of the latter was calling to me most at the time. However, I now find myself with 5 years of team leadership and project management experience, so my aspirations have once again shifted significantly, but this time towards the pursuit of one day leading a team of brilliant and talented engineers.
Throughout my journey there has been one recurring lesson, which is that there is so much power in stories and games - far more than we utilize in our day-to-day world. I’ve used both tools to lead, inspire, and build morale, even in the most challenging of times. I believe games and storytelling are twins in so many ways, and work best when elements of both are blended together to compose a cohesive, elegant whole. Whether that’s the delivery of a project, career development initiatives, or any ambition involving the coordinated efforts of individuals towards greater ends.
I’m currently most interested in contributing to open source projects while I continue to grow and expand my career in Full Stack Software Development (specializing in React, TypeScript, Python, and SQL). As a writer, I’m open to trading beta reads with other fiction novelists (particularly in the fantasy, horror, contemporary, and YA genres), while I specialize in developmental editing and plot structure. For games, I’m open to collaborating on indie projects and have experience with team leadership, project management, business operations, game writing, programming, and general game design - a well-rounded array of soft and hard skills that I’m certain would be an asset to any small studio.
I’m always happy and eager to network, so please reach out if you want to connect or if any of my skills might be helpful in achieving your own ambitions!
